Welcome

I’m Eric Stavney, an enthusiastic and passionate instructional designer, podcaster, and storyteller. Thanks for visiting my site.

I’ve been an instructional designer, change manager, or performance improvement specialist for about thirty years, either in the corporate or academic environment as an instructor.  Together with employees, managers, and those who know the business, I help business groups identify what’s not working and why, identify clear ways to address the problem, and together, we figure out how to reach that goal.

That may include teaching folks who lack skills or experience, but more often includes writing out clear procedures, checklists, rules of thumb, reference articles, and mentor and coaching programs.  Workers at all levels wan t to do well and feel satisfied that they are making a difference.  So my goal is not only to make employees feel and be more productive, but to help them feel more competent and satisfied with their contributions.   I can work as a trainer, facilitator, instructional designer, change manager, and project manager – whatever combination of roles needed to make things work.

As a journalist, I write for the Norwegian-American News on a wide range of subjects, from science to culture and archaeology.  I like to bring curious situations to light that you might not have thought about.  You can see examples of my work on my Writing page.

Then there’s my podcast, Nordic on Tap, where I get to research topics, interview interesting people, tell folktales, and play music.   Podcasting grew out of my love of storytelling, experience cohosting the Scandinavian Hour in Seattle, serving as emcee at the National Nordic Museum for their festival events, and the acting community theater.

Please check out samples of my work in eLearning, graphics production, journalism, and podcasting using the left-hand menu of links.  Thanks for coming.
